A well known hotel telephoned me and asked if I would carry out some consultancy work for them. They explained that they were disappointed in not being able to attract more guests and more weddings.

I also carried out research on the local area and arranged to go and visit the hotel and meet the owner.
After finding the hotel, I was pleasantly surprised as I drove into the grounds. The reception area was not at all what I was expecing. It was tastefully decorated, as were the adjoining function rooms.
After a look around the hotel and meeting the staff, I could only see that their biggest let down was in fact very easy to fix.
I recommended signage to be placed on the local roads to indicate where the hotel was located. I also recommended a new website in order to promote the hotel and allow it to receive the success it really did deserve.
Being able to manage the website themselves was also important. This would allow them to be able to put promotional details on there and upload new photographs as and when they wanted to.
The setting was perfect for weddings and since the new website has been set up, they have been inundated with enquiries for weddings and other ceremonies together with the hiring of their function rooms for business conferences.
I have consulted with a number of independent and boutique hotels. Quite often there is little the hotel needs to do in order to increase turnover and guest numbers, it is simply down to the way in which they market themselves.
It is this element many businesses struggle with. This is because it is difficult to see what needs to be addressed when it is your own business.
